JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for locating underground electric utilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Receives and processes locate request; closes work orders upon completion.
- Locates and marks electric lines and infrastructure.
- Assists contractors in locating underground utilities.
- Responds to after-hours emergency requests.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain records of daily locates.
- Performs related duties.
- Knowledge of underground utility locating principles and practices.
- Knowledge of map reading principles.
- Knowledge of area streets and roads.
- Skill in interpreting engineering reports, maps, and construction drawings.
- Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the preparation of reports.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
The Electrical Services Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot‑checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINESGuidelines include department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK- The work consists of related utility location duties. Inclement weather and field conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to locate and mark underground utilities. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of construction and maintenance projects.
- Contacts are typically with co‑workers, other department personnel, contractors, property owners, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, and to provide services.
- The work is typically performed outdoors while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. Work requires protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. The employee works in the presence of electrified lines and in high‑voltage areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- A high school diploma or GED AND one (1) year of relevant utility locating, construction, or closely related experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Completion of Electrical Safety Training Program.
- Possession of Apprentice or Journey Lineworker certification preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver's license for vehicle operating.
- Must be able to work with hands rubber‑gloved and with rubber sleeves.
- May be exposed to high voltage, dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, and infectious diseases.
- May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.
- May be subject to call‑out and/or call‑back.
