The Electrical Apprentice is responsible for completing work as directed by onsite foreman, with the intention of becoming a Journeyman Electrician. This includes but is not limited to, learning the trade, keeping the work safe, troubleshooting, building, installing, and maintaining various industrial electrical components. All employees must act with urgency, accountability, and flexibility to ensure Wescom’s core values are always followed.

Responsibilities

and Duties
  • Be an active safety role model and follow all safety requirements.
  • Complete work with a positive attitude.
  • Work safely and follow all safety guidelines per OSHA regulations and Wescom’s standards.
  • Measure, cut, and bend conduit using a tape measure and appropriate power/hand tools.
  • Operate power tools such as drills, saws, pullers, tuggers, etc.
  • Install conductors in race way and cable tray using manual and power equipment.
  • Assist in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects, such as wiring, conduit, and motors.
  • Perform minor repairs, such as replacing fuses and devices.
  • Load, transport, unload, and furnish Journeyman and Foreman Electricians with materials, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Use ladders, scaffolding, scissor, and boom lifts.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by field leaders.
  • Learn electrical codes and safety standards and advance electrical.
  • Take accountability for apprenticeship education, and maintaining active apprenticeship card.
  • Take pride in maintaining personal use of company property.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Current Electrical Apprenticeship card in the state they are working.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in a variety of construction settings.
  • Ability to reach, stretch, and pull cables while bending, reaching, and twisting.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions without complaining.
  • Willingness and desire to learn the electrical trade.
Hours
  • Expect 40 hours a week
  • Start time: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday–Friday
  • Occasional overtime as needed

The Electrical Apprentice reports to the Client Services Managers. Several career paths are available for the right individual, including:

  • Moving up to Journeyman Electrician
