Workover Rig Operator Position Summary

The Workover Rig Operator reports directly to the assigned Tool Pusher/Workover Foreman and is responsible for leading a 4–5-person workover rig crew in the safe, efficient, and productive execution of well service and workover operations. This position oversees the preparation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of assigned workover rig equipment while ensuring compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and industry safety standards.

The Workover Rig Operator serves as the on-site leader for the rig crew, promoting a culture of safety, operational excellence, and teamwork. The operator is expected to deliver high-quality service, provide effective solutions to customer needs, and uphold performance and safety standards at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate daily activities of a 4–5-person workover rig crew.
  • Safely operate workover rig equipment and associated well service components.
  • Ensure all crew members are properly prepared, trained, and equipped to perform assigned tasks.
  • Conduct pre-job planning, safety meetings, and job hazard assessments.
  • Inspect, maintain, and ensure the operational readiness of assigned workover rig equipment.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with company procedures, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce safe work practices and promote a strong safety culture among all crew members.
  • Identify and address operational issues, equipment concerns, and potential safety hazards.
  • Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and safety documentation as required.
  • Communicate effectively with the Tool Pusher, Field Supervisor, customers, and crew members regarding job progress and operational needs.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving well service challenges to support customer objectives.
  • Ensure equipment and work locations are maintained in a clean, organized, and professional manner.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Tool Pusher, Workover Foreman, or other designated operations management personnel.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Ensure all operations are conducted in accordance with company safety policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Stop work when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Participate in safety training, inspections, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead by example in promoting safe work habits and operational discipline.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in workover rig operations, well servicing, or related oilfield operations preferred.
  • Proven leadership ability with experience supervising and directing field personnel.
  • Strong understanding of workover rig equipment, procedures, and safe operating practices.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow operational procedures and safety requirements.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials as required.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform duties in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in an outdoor oilfield environment and may require extended work hours based on operational needs.
