This position requires development and review of curriculum, as well as, assessment of student learning. The teaching assignment may require teaching lecture-discussion courses during day, evening, or on Saturday and/or in an on-line/distance education format. The assignments are based on departmental need on a semester-by-semester basis. This position is represented by the Gavilan College Faculty Association.

The ideal candidate for this position is an equity-minded individual who understands the importance of creating opportunities for students who have been historically underserved, particularly in the Latinx community. Desirable qualifications include experience teaching lecture and lab courses at the community college level, broad-based experience and education that would enable the applicant to teach a wide array of Biology courses in various modalities, and the ability to maintain a safe working environment and follow all required safety procedures.

Essential duties include providing instruction for assigned courses, maintaining accurate class and other records required by the district, submitting attendance rosters and grade reports, following course outlines, maintaining office hours, observing, supporting, and enforcing the regulations, policies and programs of the District, providing each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, referring students to appropriate college sources for information on counseling and other student services, assisting students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the members' area of expertise, maintaining an effective classroom environment and workspace, working cooperatively within the college community, fostering a positive working environment that is free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias, demonstrating a respect for the dignity of everyone, and performing other instructional related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications, education, and experience include a Master's in any biological science OR a Bachelor's in any biological science AND a Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.
