Skilled Trades Worker
The primary duties of this position is to provide services as a locksmith.
To perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks and operations involved in the maintenance, repair, alteration and/or basic construction of District buildings and facilities in the electrical skilled trade. Employees in this classification receive general to limited supervision from the Maintenance and Operations Manager or designate within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class provides general maintenance services to assigned sites within the District as well as performing more specialized and complex duties related to a specific skilled trade(s) for all District facilities.
This job class requires a high degree of technical knowledge and skill in a variety of skilled and semi-skilled general maintenance operations. Job incumbents exercise independent judgment in the selection of methods and procedures used within a specialized area of general building maintenance work. This job class functions as a journeyman level of performance.
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled functions involving electrical and/or mechanical maintenance work in the general servicing of assigned District facilities
Performs specialized skilled trades work to service specific maintenance needs of all district facilities as assigned
Records and reports all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences as well as the time and materials expended on work orders
Keeps records of time and material
Obtains and maintains required certifications
Performs assigned skilled trades work as outlined in addendums
Ability to assist with a variety of general custodial and maintenance duties as assigned
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 100 pounds
Performs other duties consistent with job description
Possession of a valid California Driver's License
Knowledge of the safe use, maintenance and operation of tools and power equipment
Knowledge of applicable safety codes and standards
Knowledge of design, construction, and functions of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic control systems
Ability to interpret and work from building plans, wiring diagrams, blueprints of mechanical and electrical structures, and manufacturer specifications
Ability to read and apply electrical and electronic blueprints and schematics
Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
Ability to read and write at a level necessary to perform required duties successfully
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
Ability to meet the physical requirement of the job.
Install, repair and maintain District locking systems
Repair and replace locksets, door closures, cabinet and file locks, door stops and hinges and other related hardware as directed
Re-key locks; cut new, replacement and duplicate keys
Requisition inventory for lock shop according to established procedures
Respond to emergency lock-out situations as required
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2 years of experience in the commercial or industrial locksmith field
