Job DescriptionTEACHER – SPECIAL EDUCATION
Position for Special Education Teachers to provide specialized instruction and coordination of special education services for individual students with disabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS- Missouri certification in one or a combination of the following areas:
Mild-moderate disabilities (includes LD, BD/ED, M, R, and OHI certifications), hearing impaired, visually impaired, or severe developmental disabilities. - Alternate qualifications acceptable if deemed appropriate by the Board.
The Special Education Teacher functions under the direct supervision of the school site principal in collaboration with the Director of Pupil Services.
JOB GOALTo provide specialized instruction and coordination of special education services for individual students with disabilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES- Serves as a case manager in developing and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities in the regular education classroom and separate special education classes or settings.
- Communicates with regular education teachers and principals regarding the educational needs and programs of students with disabilities.
- Collaborates with the school team to implement effective specialized teaching strategies for students with disabilities.
- Maintains records regarding individual student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, services and accommodations provided, parent contacts, notices, and other documentation as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations, the Director of Pupil Services, or the school principal.
- Participates in student eligibility evaluations and re-evaluations.
- Participates in developing an annual budget request for instructional materials to implement and support IEPs for students with disabilities.
- Initiates regular communication with parents of students with disabilities.
- Uses technology effectively to implement instruction and to manage documentation requirements.
- Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
- Complies with good safety practices.
- Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned.
The individual in this position must regularly walk, hear, speak, and have close, moderate, and distance vision; is able to travel between district facilities; and is required to perform a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
