Overview
Working with the Division of Youth Services is focused on creating a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth in day treatment and residential programs. This is professional nursing work in the care and treatment of patients or residents in a Missouri Division of Youth Services facility. The role performs a variety of nursing functions, develops nursing assessments and health care plans, implements health care plans, instructs residents in personal health care, and provides preventative nursing care.
Responsibilities- Provide physical examinations, conduct nursing assessments, schedule sick calls and lab work, and review medical complaints, injury reports, and physicians’ orders.
- Maintain ongoing awareness of youths health care needs and coordinate service provision.
- Establish, review, monitor, and maintain medical and medication logs, reports, and files.
- Stay current with new developments, research, and treatment techniques relevant to youth health needs.
- Teach and monitor the implementation of new information throughout the program.
- Conduct CPR and First Aid training for youth and staff; obtain and maintain certification as American Red Cross and First Aid Instructor, HIV Counseling and Testing Certification.
- Oversee and review the work and documentation of LPNs, nurse assistants, and other technical personnel.
- RN duties may include public health services to community members (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and/or case management) or overseeing other RNs on a shift.
- RN accountability for incident reporting and investigation and for the provision of medical care by facility staff.
- Provide health care and hygiene instruction to youth, staff, and families, promoting health, prevention, and management of illness and injury.
- Dispense medications to youth.
- Transport and escort youth in routine and emergency situations.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of current professional nursing theory, practices, and standards. Ability to administer detailed therapeutic prescriptions under general professional supervision. Ability to supervise, evaluate, and instruct professional and paraprofessional nursing staff.
Eligibility Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri or in accordance with Missouri’s Nurse Licensure Compact and 0-3 years of RN experience.
(A graduate of an accredited nursing program may practice as a graduate nurse until the first licensure examination results are received or until ninety (90) days after graduation, whichever occurs first.)
Pursuant to State Law, this position requires accreditation, licensure, and/or professional or occupational license available to holders of specific post-secondary degrees.
Special Requirement: Possession of a valid driver’s license.
