Registered Nurse (RN), School District – Teaching & Learning
Location: Gladstone School District
Schedule: 8 hours per day / 5 days per week / Instructional School Year Calendar
About this positionThe RN provides, coordinates, and directs nursing care and services on behalf of the district. The RN coordinates and delivers a school health program, including services to students and staff to enhance health and wellness in the school community. Duties are performed in accordance with professional school nurse practice standards, district/state board of education policies and procedures, and state law regarding nursing practice.
Essentialfunctions
- Developing plans for student care based on assessment, interventions, and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care
- Record and/or supervise recording of appropriate health data on student records
- Oversee medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of healthcare plans
- Monitor immunizations, manage communicable diseases, and assess the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety
- Caring for students by providing basic first aid, health assessments, and care for students with chronic health conditions
- Make decisions related to the delegation of health‑care tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance
- Design and conduct related in‑service programs for teachers, aides, administrators and agency representatives working in the school setting
- Oversee infection control measures
- Ensure compliance with national and local health laws
- Serve as liaison between parents, school, and community resource providers in interpreting screening results and other health problems
- Initiate referrals to parents, school personnel or health resources for intervention, remediation, and follow-through to community resources as needed
- Serve as consultant with other school professionals such as food service personnel, physical education teachers, coaches, and counselors
- Provide health‑related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings
- Participate with team members for the student’s IEP and 504 plans, by completing health assessments for initial, annual and triennial evaluations
- Assist with mandated vision/hearing state screening programs
- Address and reduce health disparities and inequities in schools, and work to increase access, equity, and opportunity for all students
- Serve as a resource person to the school staff in first aid procedures
- Evaluate, stock, and maintain individual school first aid supplies and blood borne pathogens kits
- Collaborate with Clackamas County Health Department regarding communicable diseases
- Serve as a consultant to school officials in planning and maintaining a healthy school environment, including establishing and implementing health care procedures and programs
- Registered Nurse through the Oregon State Board of Nursing
- Bachelor's Degree (required) in Nursing or related field (Public Health, Nutrition/Dietetics, Social Work, Health Education, Public Administration, or other equivalent professional experience)
- Ability to coordinate assignments and work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information and materials
- Written and oral communication skills, and physical and mental attributes sufficient to perform essential functions
- Demonstrated effective communication, leadership and time‑management skills
- Knowledge about child development and childhood care and education
- Ability to support and train educators in multiple ways, including in‑service training, on‑site modeling, coaching, technical assistance, phone consultation, establishing mentor relationships, or guiding to professional resources in the community
- Ability to acquire knowledge in multiple student record systems
- Bilingual English/Spanish; written and oral communication skills in Spanish
- Valid driver's license and vehicle available for use
