- Valid Kentucky Certificate for School Media Librarian
Provides a well-balanced media center which enhances and supports the school's educational goals and objectives. Provides leadership and expertise in maintaining a school library media program, serving as teacher and instructional partner, program manager, and information specialist. The librarian is responsible for working collaboratively with school administration and staff to develop a library program that supports the curriculum; provides instructional leadership for the promotion of literacy;
develops and maintains a media center collection and manages the media center as a flexible, dynamic learning environment.
Building Principal
Performance Responsibilities- Serve as an instructional resource consultant and media specialist to teachers and students
- Select materials and technology which support the school’s curriculum and educational philosophy
- Organize and maintain routine operation of a school library media center; receive, process, circulate, and shelve print and non-print materials
- Assist students in learning basic information skills, including the use of the library catalog and reference sources; assist students and teachers in researching materials for use in the classroom for the purpose of enhancing classroom assignments and projects
- Plan cooperatively with teachers to incorporate research, information retrieval skills and literature appreciation
- Prepare and send overdue notices as required; assist in locating lost books; collect fines as assigned
- Inspect books and periodicals for damage and perform repairs as necessary
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance of library books, media, and library computer equipment
- Coordinate repairs and upgrades of library/media equipment/materials for the purpose of ensuring availability of items as needed
- Maintain routine records and files related to library activities as required
- Monitor students within the library for the purpose of maintaining discipline and order in the library media center
- Operate standard office equipment and utilize materials for making, mending, or protecting library materials; assist in inventory activities as required
- Create displays to promote books, holidays, and seasons
- Maintain the library in a clean and orderly condition
- Perform duties as assigned by the building principal
