Commissioning Service Engineer - HV/LV Switchgear

We’re looking for a Commissioning Service Engineer to join our team in Scotland, working on HV/LV switch gear, transformers, and electrical distribution systems across the UK and overseas. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a field‑based, problem‑solving environment, enjoys variety in their work, and wants to develop expertise in installation, commissioning, maintenance, and fault diagnosis.

What You’ll Do:- Install, commission, and maintain switch gear, transformers, and related equipment (400V–33kV).
- Perform testing and diagnostics, including Partial Discharge, thermal imaging, and oil sampling.
- Lead on‑site activities, supervising teams and coordinating with project managers.
- Work flexibly, including travel across the UK and internationally, as part of a 24/7 on‑call rota.
- Produce reports and documentation to ensure high standards of work completion.
- Proactively identify and communicate onsite opportunities for additional services, upgrades, or solutions that enhance customer operations and align with Schneider Electric offerings.
- Experience working with electrical distribution systems, switch gear, or transformers.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose faults in electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of HV/LV systems and electrical safety regulations.
- Willingness to travel and work flexibly, including some overseas assignments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to supervise teams on‑site.
- High Voltage Testing (415V – 33kV systems)
- CT Magnetisation Curves – using variac/volt & ammeter as well as CT analyser. Also, polarity check without CT analyser.
- CT Primary Injection – standard protection (OC/EF/Metering) configuration & high impedance scheme such as Bus Zone protection.
- Relay Secondary Injection (Both electromechanical and solid‑state relays) – to include current & voltage protection.
- VT Primary Injection
- Control Circuit Wiring testing & modification – prove each panel to the associated schematic diagram & fault find. Must be able to read schematic diagrams.
- Mechanical/Electrical function testing of 415V – 33kV switchboards & networks.
- G59 G99 protection – Under/Over Voltage, Under/Over Frequency, ROCOF/dF/dT.
- Familiarity with basic secondary Injection sets such as Sverker 760/780, T&R 100/200
ADM, T&R DVS
3. - Knowledge of B.E.B.S. S12 (1964) wire identification standard as used in all UK HV switch gear.
- Knowledge of basic transformer protection devices & associated test methods.
- Operational knowledge of basic auto‑changeover schemes.
