Senior Quantity Surveyor – Power & Renewables

Up to £80,000 + Benefits Package

Join a Leading Power & Renewables Project Team

MC Technical Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading engineering contractor supporting major Power & Renewables projects across the UK.

Based from Glasgow, this is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of the commercial delivery of High Voltage (HV) projects, including substations, switch gear installations, and cable infrastructure works. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially, and in line with contractual requirements.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for:
  • Managing the commercial and contractual requirements throughout the project lifecycle
  • Preparing budgets, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), profit plans, and commercial forecasts
  • Undertaking interim commercial meetings with clients and internal project teams
  • Reporting commercial performance and project status to Project Managers and Senior Management
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, interim valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Processing payment certificates and ensuring payments are made in accordance with agreed subcontract terms
  • Preparing and submitting monthly applications for payment and progress claims
  • Ensuring applications include all relevant remeasures, site changes, dayworks, and contractual claims
  • Managing change control procedures and agreeing variations with clients and subcontractors
  • Identifying material and labour escalations where applicable
  • Monitoring project costs, forecasts, margins, and cashflow performance
  • Identifying and reporting commercial risks and opportunities
  • Working closely with Planning Engineers to ensure accurate progress reporting and programme alignment
  • Costing and agreeing dayworks, remeasures, and site change orders
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and supporting documentation
  • Negotiating with clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders as required
  • Supporting compliance with company commercial procedures and information security requirements
  • Ensuring all commercial activities are carried out in line with contractual obligations
  • Other duties as required
To be considered for this role, you should have:
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying position
  • Previous experience working on Power, Renewables, Utilities, HV, Substation, or Infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of contract administration and commercial management
  • NEC3 contract experience
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts, valuations, and final accounts
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
Desirable Experience
  • Technical background as an Electrician, Instrument Technician, Electrical Engineer, or similar
  • Experience working on High Voltage (HV) substations, switch gear, or cable projects
  • Knowledge of commercial claims management and dispute resolution
  • Experience preparing and managing complex project valuations
  • Experience with in Power Transmission & Distribution projects
  • Familiarity with renewable energy infrastructure projects
