Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Provide professional hospital chaplaincy services for hospital and other hospital services including but not limited to hospice and palliative care.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
• BA or BS. A Liberal Arts or Bible Studies degree is preferred.
• Prefer a Masters in Divinity or its equivalent from an accredited seminary.
• Palliative Care Training (CAPSA) preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
• Prefer ordained minister with previous ministerial and chaplain work in hospital and with a palliative care team or a hospice.
• Prefer previous Clinical Pastoral Education experience to qualify as a Board Certified chaplain with the
• Association of Professional Chaplains.
• Previous experience or training in End of Life Care.
Required Skills
• Thorough knowledge of the role of the chaplain in the healthcare institution.
• Demonstrates skills in pastoral ministry, crisis intervention, teaching, teamwork, worship leadership and pastoral conversation.
• Ability to be flexible in working with other department, committees and staff in the hospital and organization as professional colleague.
• Maintains relationships with area clergy in the spirit of ecumenical ministry and education.
• Must be able to cope appropriately with a wide range of emotions and circumstances.
• Some direct contact with patients with communicable disease - using accepted universal precautions.
• Spend substantial time with staff, patients, families and care providers requiring high degree of emotion energy and mental alertness.
• Demonstrates skills in End of Life Car.
• Training as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions
• Offers consultation, care, comfort and support regarding the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of patients, families and care providers.
• Initiate appropriate pastoral intervention and prioritizes pastoral care needs through both policy and processes, and daily activity.
• Document spiritual care in patient chart or by other appropriate means.
• Performs pastoral visitation to patients/families at the bedside or home, offers prayer, scripture, and sacramental services as requested.
• Oversees and manages on ministries. Includes orientation, training and scheduling. Interacts with pastors of local churches concerning patient ministry and church support of the hospital and its programs.
• Perform advocacy and educational services regarding spiritual palliative care with medical staff, hospital staff and community. Topics including, but not limited to, end of life, advance directives, palliative and hospice care as well as HIPAA and spiritual care.
• Perform/document a spiritual assessment, based on a structured instrument and integrate the information into the patient palliative care plan.
• Function as a member of the palliative are consultative team with hospital unit staff to discuss goals of care, prognosis and advanced care planning.
• Offers comfort measures and support to hospital and palliative care patients, families and /or care partner.
• Identifies and address non-traditional cultural/religious needs or makes appropriate referrals. Makes referrals to other supportive resource persons as needed.
• Maintain reports, statistics and records and communicated pastoral activities ad required by the chief officer.

Maintains a positive relationship with all departments, staff, physicians, and community.
