PRN Registered Nurse
- Women & Newborn Care
Responsible for bedside nursing care and treatment of the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patient. Prepares instruments, medical supplies and maintains patient's medical records and performs other duties as directed by Women & Newborn Care Director.
Minimum Education:
- Completion of a RN degree in nursing, from an accredited nursing program required
- Must hold a current nursing license in the state of Kentucky Board of Nursing
- BSN preferred.

Work Experience:
- Experience preferred in appropriate clinical care area
Required Licenses:
- [Kentucky, United States] Registered Nurses
- Current Kentucky RN license.
- Current BLS certification
- Required to complete NRP and STABLE prior to or within the first six months of employment and maintain both certifications while employed.
- Obtain Fetal Monitoring within one year.

- Must be able to follow directions and to perform independently and work according to department standards when no directions are given.
- Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress.
- Demonstrate competencies in the care of the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient and her newborn.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.

- Ability to apply sound judgement with clinical skills for optimal patient care.
- Demonstrates flexibility by accepting and supporting changes in work assignments as related to department and patient needs.

Essential Functions:
- Women & Newborn Care RN-Essential Functions
- Completes initial nursing histories, assesses patients conditions, and develops individual plan of care for patients assigned to the unit.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcome, consults with other specialists as required and adjust nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Accurately administers medications and performs procedures that cannot be delegated.
- Assesses labor progression.
- Manages induction of labor and cervical ripening.
- Deals competently with medical emergencies including prolapsed core, breech delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, precipitous delivery, uterine rupture, management of meconium, abruptio placenta, placenta previa.
- Performs fetal heart monitoring.
- Manages pregnancy-caused hypertension.
- Initiates intravenous therapy and use of infusion pumps.
- Participates in emergency drug administration.
- Assists physician with vacuum extractor.
- Assists with and cares for patients with Epidurals.
- Assesses condition of the newborn including gestational exam.
- Performs neonatal resuscitation and assists with intubation if required.
- Recognizes and manages neonatal sepsis.
- Works with neonatal unit to care for preterm infants and others with special problems.
- Performs gavage feeding if required.
- Monitors for neonatal hypoglycemia.
- Monitors thermal regulation of the newborn.
- Recognizes neonatal jaundice.
- Facilitates with the bottle or breast feeding process.
- Prepares and assists with circumcisions.
- Teaches and supervises the proper performance of nursing acts that have been delegated to others and monitors nursing care of other health care team members.
- Promotes patient/family education, and involves the patient and significant others in implementation of health goals.
- Promotes infant/patient security.
- Understands and adheres to JC standards as they apply to the nursing profession.
- Participates in specific patient quality assessment activities, including chart review if required.
- Complies with certification/recertification requirements of the position and attend continuing education courses to remain current in the field.

- Must attend 75% of staff meetings on an annual basis.
Required:
Associates or better in Nursing.
Preferred:
Bachelors or better in Nursing. Masters or better in Nursing.
