Job Purpose
An opportunity has arisen for a new position within a shared community and events space on the University of Glasgow’s Western Campus within Byres Community Hub.
Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Customer Service & Front-of-House
- Act as the first point of contact for all Hub users, providing a professional, friendly, and inclusive welcome
- Support a vibrant and engaging environment for students, staff, and community visitors
- Respond to enquiries in person, by email, and online
- Promote Hub activities, services, and wider University opportunities
- Support Byres Community Hub Team (Community Engagement Lead, Community Events and Engagement Coordinator, Administration and Community Engagement Assistant) and School of Health and Wellbeing Operations Team (Reception and Facilities Staff) with theday-to-day running of the Hub, ensuring spaces are clean, safe, and ready for use
- Assist with opening and closing procedures
- Monitor use of spaces and ensure adherence to health & safety procedures
- Prioritise own workload to support daily operations, bookings, and events
- Respond to changing demands within a busy environment
- Work flexibly to support extended opening hours, events programme, and leave cover
- Be aware of where UofG Catering deliveries are to go and prepare for collections for quick change over of rooms
- Support Hub users and groups to access facilities such as hot water for meetings and activities
- Prepare and set up basic refreshments (e.g. teas, coffees, water service) for meetings and events
- Ensure kitchen and refreshment areas are clean, well-maintained, and compliant with hygiene standards
- Work with the Hub Administrator tomonitorand replenish supplies, ensuring appropriate stock levels
- Report any maintenance or supply issues relating to kitchen and hospitality provision
- Assistin the delivery of events, activities, and community programmes
- Check exhibitions daily to ensure the space is presented well
- Engage positively with community groups andstaff and student users
- Contribute to an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere
- Provide cover when required to use university systems for room bookings and scheduling
- Ensure spaces are set up in line with booking and event requirements, including hospitality needs
- Track usage of rooms and central exhibition area
- Communicate effectively with the wider Hub teamregardingdaily activity and requirements and follow up with enquiries from users in the space.
- Work closely with Hub Administrator tomaintainaccuraterecords relating to bookings, activities, and hospitality supplies
- Use digital systems confidently (email, booking platforms, Microsoft Office)
- Assist with basic data collection or reporting as required
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Hub,Schooland wider University
- Play a role in the Byres Hub Advisory Hub to bring your experience of working in the Hub and events such as our annual community day.

Either:
Ability todemonstratethe competenciesrequiredto undertake thedutiesassociated with this level of post havingacquiredthe necessary knowledge and skills ina similar role.
Or:
Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 5 or 6 [National 5 or 6, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2 or 3] or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
