Senior Ecologist – BNG Specialist (AECOM)

Job OverviewAs a Senior Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Specialist, you will deliver BNG assessments for infrastructure and development projects across Scotland and the wider UK. You will work closely with internal and external clients, as well as with AECOM’s BNG lead for UK&I, ecologists, landscape teams, digital and data teams, and stakeholders such as planning authorities and statutory bodies.
Responsibilities- Deliver ecological BNG inputs for internal and external clients.
- Produce and technically review a range of biodiversity assessments including BNG feasibility and design‑stage reports, and BNG assessments.
- Collaborate with the BNG Lead for UK&I to develop the BNG Vision in Scotland.
- Co‑design nature enhancements with ecologists and landscape teams.
- Support consultation and engagement with clients, planning authorities, statutory bodies and the public.
- Help develop technical capabilities and embed innovation and research.
- Work with digital and data teams on the continued development of digital biodiversity tools.
- Lead the production of bids and tenders for ecological and BNG services.
- Mentor and support junior staff and peers.
- Degree (or equivalent) in ecology or a related subject and membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and policy, particularly within Scotland.
- Experience leading and managing biodiversity assessments using the Statutory Metric and other recognized tools.
- Experience conducting UKHabs surveys and Habitat Condition Assessments.
- Experience reviewing technical work, supporting wider team members, and bidding/tendering.
