Mechanical Technician - Dayshift

Leverndale/Dykebar Hospital’s require a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join the Estates team to carry out reactive and planned preventative maintenance across the hospital campus.

Candidates must be a time‑served mechanical engineer, qualified to HNC level (or currently working towards this qualification), with post‑apprenticeship experience.

The primary role is to carry out mechanical tasks but will be part of a multi‑skilled technical team delivering specialist technical services across building services disciplines including AC systems, hot water systems, ventilation equipment, pressure systems, medical gas systems. Accept a wide range of cross‑trade duties to deliver a high standard of service.

Successful applicants will also have responsibilities to assist with training and education of apprentices and adult trainees, ensuring they gain the necessary training and experience to meet training program needs, and work with managers to set up training programs.

• Provide a safe and comfortable environment for the provision of clinical care.
• Use acquired skills and abilities to expedite best solutions and assist in putting solutions into practice.
• Install and commission machinery using installation manuals to ensure safety and compliance with health and safety, statutory regulations.
• Interpret detailed manufacturer installation manuals, specifications, technical data, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings for building services, systems, plant and equipment.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance in accordance with organisational and manufacturer recommendations, using appropriate tools, test equipment and record details of work to prevent breakdowns and maintain operational effectiveness.
• Respond to breakdowns, evaluate situation and take corrective action to ensure minimal disruption and damage.
• Use Building Management System (BMS) to set parameters and record data across building services, provide correct environmental conditions and early warning of service faults (medical gas, heating, water, power, etc.).
• Fault‑find and analyse complex control systems and equipment safely and effectively using fine tools and calibrated measuring equipment to minimise future breakdowns and keep hospital running efficiently.
• Inspect, test and verify fixed wiring systems in healthcare facilities, ensuring compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) and current Guidance note 3‑BS 7671 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, utilising calibrated test equipment to maintain safe working environment.

• Completion of a recognised apprenticeship in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Plumbing, equivalent to SVQ Level 4, Higher National Diploma, Modern Apprenticeship – Level 4, Professional Development Awards (SCQF 8–9).
• Knowledge of procedures for mechanical and gas maintenance and repair of electrical equipment; BTEC/HNC Level or City & Guilds plus relevant post‑apprenticeship training or equivalent experience.
• Attendance of training courses as required by Estates Management and NHS policies; specialised training in systems and equipment to meet laws, national guidelines and standards, with regular re‑certification to maintain CPD.
• Low Voltage SHTM 06‑02 (one‑week training and certification, re‑validation every three years) plus BS 7671 IEE wiring regulations.
