Job DescriptionGlassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates in the capacity of a Kindergarten Teacher at the J. Harvey Rodgers School for the school year. This position is responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:
Qualifications: Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Instructional Certificate with the appropriate teaching endorsement.
Reports To: Principal
Job Goal / Major Functions- Assumes professional responsibility for the educational instruction and supervision of assigned students in accordance with the courses of study approved by the Board of Education.
- Plans a program of study and lessons that strives to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Implements a course of study that includes the identified New Jersey Student Learning Standards and Cumulative Progress Indicators.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives and including positive attitudes toward learning.
- Manages the learning environment in a manner that contributes to the efficient accomplishment of both individual teaching assignments and the overall operation of the school.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports, as required.
- Guides students toward maximum achievement, appropriate actions and decision making by counseling with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Identifies the learning needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists, when appropriate.
- Assists in curriculum development and in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Attends staff meetings and serves, as appropriate, on staff committees.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
- Supervises behavior in the hallways, lunchroom, and on school grounds for the safety and wellbeing of students, personnel, and visitors.
- Performs duties which are within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as assigned by his/her supervisor in accordance with N.J. State Law, State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, Local Board of Education Policies, and contractual obligations.
- Strives to maintain awareness of current development, interpretations of subject matter content, and methodology of teaching in the subject area(s) to which assigned.
- Demonstrates professional and personal attributes that contribute to the quality of school life.
- Maintains ethical and professional behavior in working with school personnel and other agencies.
- Performs other specific duties assigned by the administration.
Terms of Employment: This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
