Job Description

Glassboro Public Schools is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Music Teacher at the Dorothy L. Bullock School for the  School Year.

General Music (Grades 3–5)
  • Foster musical literacy through singing, movement, instrument playing, music reading, listening, and creative expression.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Assess student progress and communicate achievement to students and families.
  • Integrate technology and a variety of instructional strategies into music instruction.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to support school-wide initiatives.
  • Prepare students for school performances and assemblies as appropriate.
  • Maintain music classroom equipment, instruments, and instructional materials.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Instrumental Band Instruction (Grades 4–5)
  • Provide small-group and/or sectional instrumental lessons for fourth and fifth grade band students during the instructional day.
  • Teach proper instrumental technique, music reading, tone production, and ensemble skills.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate with families regarding practice expectations and performance opportunities.
  • Coordinate with classroom teachers to minimize instructional disruption while scheduling band lessons.
  • Assist students in preparing for concerts and performances.
Beginning and Advanced Band Director (After School)

The following responsibilities are compensated through an additional stipend and occur outside the regular teacher workday:

  • Direct Beginning Band and Advanced Band rehearsals after school.
  • Prepare students for school concerts and community performances.
  • Select appropriate music literature for each ensemble.
  • Coordinate concert logistics, rehearsal schedules, and performance preparation.
  • Maintain an inventory of band instruments, music, and equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families regarding rehearsals, performances, and expectations.
  • Collaborate with administration regarding the scheduling and operation of the band program.
Minimum Requirements
  • State of NJ Certification (2100 – Teacher of Music) Required
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, including experience with ESL students
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and criminal history review process
Terms of Employment

This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

Evaluation

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
