This position will specifically and comprehensively support the infrastructure and operations for the Rowan University website(s). This role requires a high degree of technical autonomy and deep knowledge of server administration.
The position reports to the Director of Web Strategy and Development in the Rowan University Division of Marketing & Communication. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is to be expected. Candidates must follow the residency requirements outlined by the New Jersey AFT .
Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions
- Configure and perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance of Rowan's CMS and web server cluster.
- Remediate server performance or outage notices in a timely fashion.
- Build and maintain reliable development, staging, and test environments to support the Web Services team, ensuring parity with production systems.
- Implement industry web standards and best practices throughout the Rowan University website, with particular awareness for performance.
- Work collaboratively on various projects with developers, other departments, and external vendors/service providers.
- Serve as the team's liaison for university-wide operations. Regularly attend Change Management meetings to align with upcoming maintenance, network outages, and current technology events.
- Work with Rowan’s Information Security Office to address and remediate vulnerabilities.
- Create and maintain technical documentation regarding back-end processes.
- Manage several projects simultaneously.
- Provide support for other, various Rowan University projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
Required:- A master’s degree in web development, computer science, information technology, or related degree.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of professional experience working as an web or dev ops specialist, full-stack developer, programmer, or similar role.
- Familiarity with LAMP web application stack development.
- Knowledge administering Linux web servers running Apache, PHP, MySQL and other backend server technologies.
- Comfortability with regular expressions.
- Experience supporting the CI/CD pipeline utilizing Git and Git Hub.
- Understanding of the entire web development process (design, development, testing, and deployment).
- Familiarity with content management systems such as Cascade, Drupal, or Word Press.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Be able to work independently to solve problems with minimal supervision.
