Company Overview

This is a great opportunity to join a respected, mid-sized public accounting firm in the Hartford County, CT area, known for investing in people rather than treating them as replaceable. The firm intentionally stays smaller and more personal than a national practice, giving its leaders real influence over how the department is run and how clients are served. Team members describe an open, approachable culture where work-life balance is taken seriously once the spring rush ends.

Job Summary

We''re looking to add a Tax Manager to lead engagements, mentor rising talent, and deepen client relationships within its tax practice. You''ll partner closely with firm leadership and other partners across a flexible team structure, with real say in how work and people are managed rather than being boxed into a single fixed pod.

Responsibilities
  • Review complex tax returns for businesses and individuals
  • Partner with clients on tax planning strategies
  • Advise clients on business matters and general retirement planning
  • Coach, train, and evaluate seniors and staff
  • Manage a portfolio of client relationships and keep engagements on schedule
  • Work with firm leadership on staffing decisions and workflow planning
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of tax experience within a public accounting firm with active CPA
  • A track record of career stability rather than frequent job changes
  • Strong leadership presence and a strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high level planning, consulting, and technical guidance to clients
  • Sharp problem-solving skills and good judgment under deadline pressure
  • Comfortable with tax software and MS Office
  • Adaptable and professional working across partners, managers, and staff in a flexible team structure
What We Offer
  • One true busy season: wraps up by April 15 each year instead of multiple heavy cycles spread across the calendar
  • Your Fridays back: half day Fridays outside of tax season bring the average work week down to about 36 hours
  • Flexibility that actually works: a hybrid schedule built around 3 to 4 days in the office
  • Reviews that keep pace with you: a structured mentor program feeds directly into performance reviews, now completed earlier in the year so feedback lands close to busy season
  • A team that feels like one: an open door culture with partners, plus regular happy hours and team outings
  • Real influence, real impact: help shape a growing tax practice and develop its next wave of leaders, without the rigid charge-hour pressure of a national firm
  • Bonus potential: eligible for an annual performance bonus on top of base salary
  • Well-rounded benefits: paid time off and holidays, company paid life and disability coverage, health insurance, support for continuing education, and a 401(k) with match
