Role Description
HABCO Industries is seeking a highly motivated, hands‑on Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of our growing aerospace and defense manufacturing business. This role is ideal for a roll‑up‑your‑sleeves leader who enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment and is equally comfortable leading a team, closing the books, investigating inventory discrepancies, and partnering with operations to solve business problems. The Controller will be expected to understand the business beyond the financial statements and serve as a key partner to manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and executive leadership.
FinancialReporting & Accounting Operations
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and financial statements.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
- Review account reconciliations and maintain strong accounting controls.
- Analyze financial performance and provide meaningful insight into business results, trends, and risks.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning activities.
- Assist with management reporting and presentations for executive leadership.
- Manage all aspects of inventory and cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- Maintain accurate inventory valuation utilizing average cost methodology.
- Review and analyze work‑in‑process (WIP), inventory transactions, job costing, and production reporting.
- Partner closely with operations to understand manufacturing performance, inventory flow, and key cost drivers.
- Support inventory cycle counts, annual physical inventories, and inventory reconciliations.
- Investigate inventory variances, transaction errors, and costing issues to ensure financial accuracy.
- Drive improvements in inventory accuracy, transaction discipline, and financial visibility throughout the organization.
- Ensure proper accounting for purchased materials, subcontract services, labor, and manufacturing overhead.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
- Establish a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Provide hands‑on support during periods of high workload and changing business priorities.
- Foster strong working relationships across all functional areas of the organization.
- Serve as a trusted business partner to operational leaders.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Coordinate annual audits and support external auditors.
- Manage sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and financial reporting requirements.
- Support customer, regulatory, and government contract compliance requirements as needed.
- Identify and implement process improvements across accounting and finance functions.
- Leverage ERP systems and reporting tools to improve efficiency and visibility.
- Support system enhancements, upgrades, and process transformation initiatives.
- Participate in cross‑functional projects that improve operational and financial performance.
- Help build scalable processes and controls that support future growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role.
- Strong manufacturing accounting experience.
- Deep understanding of inventory accounting, average cost methodologies, WIP accounting, and job costing.
- Experience managing complex inventory environments with high transaction volumes.
- Experience leading monthly close and financial reporting processes.
- Strong ERP system experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and lead through ambiguity.
