Role Description

HABCO Industries is seeking a highly motivated, hands‑on Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of our growing aerospace and defense manufacturing business. This role is ideal for a roll‑up‑your‑sleeves leader who enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment and is equally comfortable leading a team, closing the books, investigating inventory discrepancies, and partnering with operations to solve business problems. The Controller will be expected to understand the business beyond the financial statements and serve as a key partner to manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and executive leadership.

Financial

Reporting & Accounting Operations
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and financial statements.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review account reconciliations and maintain strong accounting controls.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide meaningful insight into business results, trends, and risks.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning activities.
  • Assist with management reporting and presentations for executive leadership.
Manufacturing & Inventory Accounting
  • Manage all aspects of inventory and cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory valuation utilizing average cost methodology.
  • Review and analyze work‑in‑process (WIP), inventory transactions, job costing, and production reporting.
  • Partner closely with operations to understand manufacturing performance, inventory flow, and key cost drivers.
  • Support inventory cycle counts, annual physical inventories, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Investigate inventory variances, transaction errors, and costing issues to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Drive improvements in inventory accuracy, transaction discipline, and financial visibility throughout the organization.
  • Ensure proper accounting for purchased materials, subcontract services, labor, and manufacturing overhead.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands‑on support during periods of high workload and changing business priorities.
  • Foster strong working relationships across all functional areas of the organization.
  • Serve as a trusted business partner to operational leaders.
Compliance & Internal Controls
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Coordinate annual audits and support external auditors.
  • Manage sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and financial reporting requirements.
  • Support customer, regulatory, and government contract compliance requirements as needed.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement process improvements across accounting and finance functions.
  • Leverage ERP systems and reporting tools to improve efficiency and visibility.
  • Support system enhancements, upgrades, and process transformation initiatives.
  • Participate in cross‑functional projects that improve operational and financial performance.
  • Help build scalable processes and controls that support future growth.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role.
  • Strong manufacturing accounting experience.
  • Deep understanding of inventory accounting, average cost methodologies, WIP accounting, and job costing.
  • Experience managing complex inventory environments with high transaction volumes.
  • Experience leading monthly close and financial reporting processes.
  • Strong ERP system experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and lead through ambiguity.
  • Proven track record of taking ownership, driving accountability, and delivering results.
