RoleMid‑level Water Resource Engineer/Planner at GEI’s Ithaca, NY office. Under the supervision of senior staff, the role will provide support to ongoing field and office–related efforts for water resource projects, including watershed modeling, stormwater modeling, management and design, coastal/shoreline modeling, hydraulic hazard analyses, dam breach analyses, and other related projects.
Responsibilities- Lead project tasks with a team of registered civil engineers and flood‑management professionals.
- Prepare water‑resources planning documents, including Groundwater Sustainability Plans, Flood Protection Plans, Implementation Plans, Integrated Regional Water Management Plans, feasibility studies, Drought Contingency Plans, Emergency Action Plans, and other flood and water‑conveyance infrastructure projects.
- Support clients pursuing grant funding opportunities such as US Grants, DWR‑based grant programs, and others.
- Interpret and synthesize complex water‑resources modeling results.
- Perform technical analysis related to flood‑system evaluation, floodplain‑based flood‑system maintenance and operations, water‑supply and demand estimates and projections.
- Collaborate with other team members, including structural engineers and surveyors, to ensure design coherence.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and presentations to clients and regulators.
- Support Project Managers by tracking budgets, client communications, and deliverables.
- B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related water‑resource field.
- 6+ years of professional experience in water‑resource engineering/planning.
- Knowledge of NYSDEC environmental regulations is a plus.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Experience with H&H analysis software such as the USACE HEC software suite; experience with CAD and GIS software is a plus.
- Excellent technical report‑writing and communication skills required.
- Willingness and ability to travel on short‑term assignments as needed.
- Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight year‑round, as required without restrictions.

The role is primarily sedentary but may involve light to medium manual tasks, such as standing, walking, climbing, light lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, and occasional repetitive motion. Field visits may require travel and the ability to perform outdoor tasks.
