Electrical Project Engineer – EPC Gas Turbine Projects

The Electrical Project Engineer plays a key role in large-scale EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, overseeing the engineering, procurement, and construction phases of complex electrical systems. This position ensures that electrical designs, equipment, and installations meet project specifications, industry standards, and schedule requirements. The engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, including design engineers, procurement specialists, contractors, and project stakeholders, to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret electrical designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure alignment with project and proposal requirements.
  • Provide technical input during the design phase to optimize electrical systems, equipment selection, and overall system performance.
  • Assist the Lead Project Engineer in reviewing and approving electrical designs, drawings, and specifications, clearly identifying potential schedule and cost impacts.
  • Conduct technical and commercial evaluations of electrical systems and propose improvements or modifications, ensuring accurate assessment and approval of changes in scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Prepare, maintain, and organize engineering documentation, including design reports, technical submittals, and supporting calculations.
  • Act as the single point of contact for all electrical engineering aspects of EPC projects and proposals.
  • Ensure all electrical work adheres to applicable local and international standards, such as IEC, IEEE, and NFPA.
  • Plan and perform inspections, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) for electrical systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with project managers, other discipline engineers, and subcontractors to align construction activities with overall project goals and milestones.
  • Provide timely progress updates and technical reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing comprehensive documentation for project handover, including as-built drawings, operation manuals, and relevant technical records.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment and systems, with a focus on understanding and resolving issues related to gas turbine controls and associated auxiliary systems.
  • Apply field and design engineering experience to support commissioning, start-up, and performance optimization of power generation equipment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and tools used in gas turbine and power generation projects.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of electrical engineering experience, with significant involvement in gas turbine projects and power generation applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in both field and design engineering for electrical systems.
  • Strong experience in electrical design, including the ability to develop and review detailed electrical schematics and layouts.
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and design breaker control (AC/DC) schematics and protection circuits.
  • Hands-on experience with AVR/excitation systems, gas turbine auxiliary controls, and field instrumentation.
  • Gas turbine experience is required, including practical knowledge of generators, turbines, and gas turbine control systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar CAD tools for creating and modifying electrical drawings.
  • Experience with commissioning, FAT, SAT, and troubleshooting of power generation equipment and associated electrical systems.
  • Solid understanding of generator control logic, power distribution systems, and protective relaying principles.
  • Ability to conduct technical and commercial evaluations of electrical systems and propose effective improvements.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present technical information clearly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is highly desirable.
  • Experience working on EPC projects in the power generation or energy sector.
  • Familiarity with international standards such as IEC, IEEE, and NFPA and their application in design and commissioning.
  • Comfort working as a primary technical point of contact for electrical engineering on complex projects.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, design reports, and technical submittals.
  • Ability to balance technical rigor with commercial considerations in project decision-making.
  • Capability to work effectively in remote and hybrid environments while coordinating with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to offices and project sites as needed.

Work Environment

This role is primarily 100% remote, offering flexibility for individuals located on the East Coast, with a preference for candidates based in NY, NJ, or CT. During the first week, the engineer will travel to the…
