Develops, reviews and modifies accounting procedures and supervises the installation of new or revised systems or procedures for the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Services Reimbursement department; does related work as required.
Essential DutiesThe Accountant I position is responsible for a variety of tasks related to maximizing revenue for mental health, developmental and substance use services as they pertain to accounts related to Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance Carriers and Managed Care Organizations.
ResponsibilitiesThe position is responsible for:
- Auditing and preparing daily deposit transactions to PIV in Oracle
- Recalculating client accounts to maintain accurate receivables
- Analyzing and managing third party files in preparation of downloading and posting revenue within the electronic health record
- Performing quality review of third party payments for weekly and monthly balancing
- Maintaining multiple spreadsheets in preparation of monthly closing activities
- Compiling reports on month-end revenue for submission to financial management
- Running and analyzing complex accounts receivable reports and reporting trends to the Reimbursement Manager and Supervisor
- Daily interaction as team lead with Account Clerk III staff related to accounts receivable research
- Perform duties that include financial reporting and month end closing activities for self-pay and 3rd party insurance billing
- Coordinating activities related to the State Debt Set-off Collection program for collections of delinquent accounts
- Principle methods and practices of accounting
- Some knowledge of the principles underlying the laws, ordinances and regulations governing financial operations
- Some knowledge of modern business management practices
- Some knowledge of data processing applications and procedures
- Ability to understand complex instructions, including federal regulations
- Ability to devise and apply modern accounting procedures
- Ability to analyze and interpret fiscal and accounting data and to prepare appropriate statements and reports
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients
- Good professional judgment and perform related job duties as assigned

Expected salary low-mid range of listed salary scale.
Minimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in accounting, and preferably one (1) year of accounting experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
