GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Construction Technician to work in Virginia. This position involves construction field inspection and testing of construction materials. Inspection areas include foundation inspection, concrete placement inspection, and quality control testing. Must be willing to travel and stay near projects within work area which could be in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina areas.
- Work with minor oversight after receiving appropriate training
- Interface with clients and contractors on-site
- Inspect foundation for adherence to project plans and specifications
- Sample and test fresh concrete properties
- Complete required form and draft inspection reports as required
- Basic computer skills, good visual and hearing skills, ability to follow procedures and protocols; good organizational skills; and strong attention to detail.
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently or as a part of a team
- Working in the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow, dust, etc.)
- Works with a safety mindset that aligns with GAI and our clients cultures
- Must be flexible with work hours with willingness to travel up to 100% during the week days and occasionally weekend travel and/or work will be required
- Ability to lift and carry up 50lbs routinely
- Ability to walk and stand for lengthy periods.

Technical Responsibilities- Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites.
- Conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel in determining physical properties of construction materials.
- Collect soil, asphalt, and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary report.
- Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects.
- Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes, and standards.
- Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and / or technical drawings.
- Communication of field and laboratory testing results with staff, contractors, and clients.

Management Responsibility- May be required to direct other staff members (minimal).
- Receives close supervision on work assignments.
- Ability to take direction from a leader.
- Possess basic oral and written communication skills; interacts well with other staff, ability to function positively in a team environment.
