Overview
GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Construction Technician to work in Virginia. This position involves construction field inspection and testing of construction materials. Inspection areas include foundation inspection, concrete placement inspection, and quality control testing. Must be willing to travel and stay near projects within Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina areas.
Responsibilities- Work with minor oversight after receiving appropriate training.
- Interface with clients and contractors on-site.
- Inspect foundation for adherence to project plans and specifications.
- Sample and test fresh concrete properties.
- Complete required forms and draft inspection reports.
- Review plans and specifications before field observations.
- Conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel.
- Collect soil, asphalt, and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.
- Document field activities, observations, and testing results on projects.
- Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes, and standards.
- Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and/or technical drawings.
- Communicate field and laboratory testing results with staff, contractors, and clients.
- 1+ year(s) of experience.
- High school graduate.
- Driver’s license.
- Basic computer skills, good visual and hearing skills, ability to follow procedures and protocols, good organizational skills, strong attention to detail.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow, dust, etc.).
- Safety mindset aligned with GAI and client cultures.
- Flexible work hours; willing to travel up to 100% during weekdays and occasional weekend travel.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs routinely.
- Ability to walk and stand for lengthy periods.
