Job Description

Responsible for the detailed mechanical engineering scope of wastewater biosolids and food waste treatment systems to include biosolids drying, biosolids incineration, and biosolids and food waste digestion. The Project Engineer (PE) develops key documents and generates technical RFQ packages and technical bid evaluations for process equipment, vessels, valves and other mechanical equipment. The PE works with a cross‑functional engineering and broader project team to deliver to our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical related design of water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring design quality, while meeting project schedule, budget, and customers’ expectations.
  • Perform required calculations needed for sizing, generate technical specifications/RFQs and perform technical bid evaluations for the fabrication/procurement of various mechanical equipment including (but not limited to) process equipment, pumps, blowers, compressors, chemical feed systems, vessels/tanks, piping systems, and valves.
  • Engineer systems in compliance with engineering principles, customer standards and specifications, contractual requirements, and local applicable codes.
  • Ensure that all engineering designs, bills of material and technical data are completely and accurately documented by reviewing associated engineering drawings and related documents.
  • Coordinate activities concerned with process and mechanical design reviews as well as project issue (scheduling and technical) resolution related to design, construction and start‑up.
  • Meet Quality Management System (QMS) requirements for project execution and documentation.
  • Utilize, update and optimize design tools for biosolids and resource recovery processes.
  • Interface with project manager and customer on project and problem resolution.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering or other related technical discipline.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a related Engineering field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to team and department projects.
  • Experience with the specification and evaluation of process equipment, rotating equipment, piping, tanks and valves.
  • Ability to read P&IDs and PFDs (including material balances).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail and a basic understanding of water chemistry.
  • Experience with hydraulic design including head and NPSH calculations for sizing of pumps.
  • Comfortable with a fast‑paced work environment.
  • Good technical writing and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with co‑workers.
Additional Information

Compensation - The salary range is tied to the market for similarly bench‑marked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $77,000 - $91,000 USD annually.

Typical Working Conditions
  • This position requires the job holder to lift and or carry up to 20 pounds, climb ladders and enter and work in confined spaces. Capabilities of using basic tools to perform the required tasks. Training will be provided for the work environment and tools required.
