Ramboll is seeking motivated and inquisitive candidates to join our Water Division in Syracuse, NY;
Rochester, NY;
Arlington, VA; or Richmond, VA. As a Municipal Wastewater Process Design Engineer you will contribute to project planning, design, and execution of wastewater treatment solutions that meet regulatory and client requirements.
- Plan and design portions of projects of greater complexity, following appropriate design, engineering codes, government and third‑party standards.
- Analyze, develop and interpret reports, drawings, analytical data, and other information required for planning and design of wastewater treatment projects.
- Review and determine regulatory requirements (local, state, federal) applicable to each assignment.
- Prepare and, when needed, present reports or analyses such as design calculations, field data results/conclusions, and cost estimates to internal teams and external clients.
- Communicate directly with external stakeholders, including vendors, subcontractors, contractors, and regulators.
- Support preparation of proposals and fee estimates.
- Train and mentor early‑career employees.
- Utilize an advanced understanding of engineering fundamentals and proficiency with relevant computer software packages and design techniques specific to wastewater treatment and hydraulic engineering.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with engineers, scientists, and subcontracted professionals.
- Identify and troubleshoot field assignments in accordance with project control and field guidance documents.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- 10+ years of qualifying engineering experience in the wastewater treatment engineering/design field.
- Experience with Best Nutrient Removal (BNR) and Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) processes in municipal wastewater projects, particularly related to the Chesapeake Bay Watershed or similar programs.
- Professional Engineering certification or the ability to obtain licensure within the primary state of residence/operation, relevant to the job function.
- Willingness to travel as project requirements dictate.

Salary and BenefitsAnticipated base salary range: $115,000 to $140,000 per year. Compensation varies by location, skills, experience, education, and internal equity. The position may also be eligible for bonus, overtime, and other forms of compensation, and you will receive a comprehensive benefits package that supports well‑being, professional development, and work‑life balance.
