Position Overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Engineering Department, including the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical systems. This role develops, coordinates, and monitors the property's maintenance program to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and staff. The Chief Engineer also supervises, trains, and manages all Engineering personnel. The industry operates seven (7) days per week, twenty‑four (24) hours per day.

Regular and reliable attendance, in accordance with company standards, is essential for success in this position.

Qualifications, Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2‑3 years of supervisory and maintenance experience.
  • Strong understanding of the English language with effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced maintenance knowledge and aptitude, with experience managing all aspects of an Engineering Department. Experience with modern building systems, controls, and preventive maintenance programs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient computer skills required; familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred. Experience with hotel systems such as MICROS is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in general building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and building systems.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of major facilities, systems design, and troubleshooting. Journeyman‑level proficiency in the use of maintenance tools and equipment.
Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper staffing levels to achieve maximum payroll productivity while maintaining the lowest possible labor costs in accordance with management company standards.
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, counsel, schedule, and evaluate Engineering staff.
  • Inspect and monitor buildings, equipment, and grounds to identify maintenance and preventive maintenance needs.
  • Prepare and submit cost estimates and repair recommendations, including feasibility assessments, practical solutions, and justification for departmental maintenance requests.
  • Collaborate with appropriate personnel on maintenance budgeting, long‑range planning, and capital expenditure projects.
  • Solicit and evaluate bid proposals and estimates from contractors and skilled trades professionals.
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and equipment technical support departments to ensure competitive pricing, quality products, and appropriate warranties.
  • Establish work priorities and ensure all maintenance tasks are completed in a timely, professional, and satisfactory manner.
