Role Description

The Metal Fabrication / Misc. Metals Estimator is a full-time, on-site role located in the Washington DC-Baltimore Area. This role is responsible for reviewing architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate estimates for metal fabrication and miscellaneous metals scopes. Day-to-day activities include quantity takeoffs, material and labor cost analysis, requesting and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes, and preparing detailed proposals and bid packages.

The estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to clarify project requirements, value engineer solutions, and support budgeting and scheduling. The role also involves maintaining organized estimate files, tracking bid results, assisting with change orders, and providing responsive communication to clients and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Strong practical understanding of Metal Fabrication, Welding, and Sheet Metal processes and standards.
  • Experience with Machining and related shop practices used in the production of custom and miscellaneous metal components.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide professional Customer Service, including clear communication with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Prior experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications for commercial projects.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); basic competence in CAD or modeling tools is preferred.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and organizational skills, with close attention to detail and accuracy in quantity takeoffs and pricing.
  • Ability to work on-site, coordinate with field and office personnel, and manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant experience in metal fabrication, structural steel, or miscellaneous metals estimating; prior work in commercial or government construction is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or a degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is beneficial.
