Department School of Design, Arts, and Communication:
Fashion Design

Adjunct faculty at Stevenson University will engage in teaching activities in accordance with the University's faculty workload policies. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in the School of Design's B.S. Fashion Design program and may include courses in the B.S. Fashion Merchandising degree program. Course assignments include technical fashion design courses (using CAD and/or Adobe Creative Suite software and garment construction equipment) and fashion design lecture courses.

Master's degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising/Marketing, Apparel Design or related discipline plus two years of teaching experience at the college level or equivalent combination of education and experience. MFA or Ph.D. and professional fashion design and/or retail experience preferred.

• Ability to develop and teach wide-ranging technical and lecture-based fashion design courses that prepare students for a career in industry. (Courses could include: fashion illustration, garment construction, draping, pattern making, portfolio, product development, history of fashion, textiles and fashion writing).
• Ability to develop and teach a wide range of fashion merchandising courses that prepare students for a career in the fashion business (Courses could include: fashion and culture, retailing, sourcing and logistics, merchandising math, portfolio and visual merchandising).
• Established teaching ability in the areas of fashion design and fashion merchandising.
• Experience using software:
  Adobe Creative Suite, CAD (Gerber Accumark), Microsoft applications, web publishing tools, social media.
• Courses require strong technology and organizational skills and experience working with Blackboard, Bluejeans, Zoom or a similar platform.
• Ability to demonstrate a wide range of design skills including safe operation of all sewing machinery, cutting, and pressing equipment.
• Proven ability to develop effective course materials including syllabi, lessons, demonstrations, lectures and workshops for students of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to create inclusive learning experiences that will help undergraduate students to develop professionally, intellectually, and socially.
• Ability to work with students of varying preparation and abilities, diverse backgrounds, and practice inclusive pedagogy.
• Demonstrated student-centered approach to teaching, and a commitment to student achievement.

Light work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy college environment on a campus with building and studio spaces separated by some distance.

Requires work with sewing, ironing, and garment production equipment, computers, monitors, copy machines and other office equipment is required.

• Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (August through May), with no more than 9 contact hours taught in an individual semester.
