CRNAs are vital members of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. CRNAs provide expert anesthesia care in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons and a variety of healthcare providers to deliver high-quality, holistic, evidence-based anesthesia and pain care services. Additionally, CRNAs are expected to actively contribute to the educational, safety, quality, and research missions of the department.
They care for patients at all acuity levels across the lifespan in a variety of settings, including the UMMC General and Shock Trauma operating rooms and other hospital procedural areas. Opportunities to practice in additional disciplines such as obstetrics and regional anesthesia are also available. CRNAs are expected to exhibit independent thinking, problem solving, empathy, and scientific acumen while working collaboratively with departmental anesthesiologists within a variety of medical direction and supervision models.
FUNCTIONS
- Provides section leadership and oversight for daily operations.
- Develops or oversees CRNA self-scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing (may delegate).
- Monitors to ensure a safe, friendly, and collaborative work environment.
- Collaborates with the Chief CRNA to complete performance evaluations.
- Provides mentorship to junior staff.
- Supervises new staff orientation.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and accredited nurse anesthesia program.
- Two (2) or more years of anesthesia care in an acute setting experience preferred but not required.
- Valid state RN License (must meet education requirement(s) for state licensure).
- Valid state APRN Recognition (must meet education requirement(s) for state recognition and obtain within six (6) months of hire).
- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and BLS by the American Heart Association.
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code required at time of hire.
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
