The University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC), part of the University of Maryland Medical System, is seeking Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to join a high-performing, academic anesthesiology team.

Position Overview

CRNAs are essential members of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams, CRNAs provide comprehensive, evidence-based anesthesia and pain management care across a wide range of surgical and procedural settings.

This role offers exposure to high-acuity cases across the lifespan in a supportive academic environment with opportunities for teaching, research, and quality improvement.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-anesthetic evaluations and develop individualized anesthesia care plans
  • Obtain informed consent and order/evaluate diagnostic studies
  • Administer and manage anesthesia including induction, maintenance, and emergence
  • Perform and manage regional anesthesia techniques (when applicable)
  • Place and manage invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices
  • Manage airway, ventilation, fluids, blood products, and hemodynamic stability
  • Respond to intraoperative and perioperative emergencies
  • Communicate patient status changes to supervising anesthesiologists and surgical teams
  • Provide post-anesthesia care and recovery management

QualificationsRequired
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia program
  • Current CRNA certification (AANA) at time of employment
  • Active Registered Nurse license
  • APRN recognition in Maryland (or eligibility within 6 months of hire)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA)
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) and taxonomy code at hire
Preferred
  • 2+ years of anesthesia experience in an acute care setting (preferred, not required)
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Interest in academic medicine, teaching, or research
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: $230,000 - $290,000+
