Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Position Description
Ryder is hiring a Senior Level Diesel Technician in Glen Burnie, Maryland — offering weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a Technician career you can feel good about.
- Hourly Pay: $30.00 per hour
- Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
- Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)

First Shift 6:00 am – 2:30 am

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational or Technical Certification, Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
- Basic tools, required
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
- Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems, required
- Three (3) years or more relevant work experience, preferred
- All other certification as required by location, required
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A, preferred
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy duty and medium duty equipment
- Knowledge of and ability to apply computer skills (PC, Windows, mouse, etc.)
- Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder Drug Test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, Ryder background and motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
- Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard, preventive maintenance and diagnosis of complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computers when applicable
- Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision
- Replaces defective components as instructed
- Works unsupervised on most tasks
- Performs facility maintenance duties
- Interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once assigned a task
- Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
- Works in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
- Acts as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
- Accesses and uses internal and external maintenance documents
- Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)
- Receives SBTIII (SBT
220) training within 180 days - Completes 2 OEM Online diagnostic scan tool software courses (predominant OEM of fleet mix) within 365 days
Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
