Security Technician Specialist

Job Requirements

Under supervision of the Director of Security, the Security Technician provides design, installation, configuration, testing, monitoring and service of all security and monitoring equipment including but not limited to access control systems, CCTV and audio video systems, RFID wireless panic alarm systems and other systems that may be developed and brought online.

Reports directly to the Director of Security. Follows general instructions and directions from the Director of Security, plans own time to a degree to meet pre-determined schedules, work is subject to moderate direct supervision. May also take direction from the Assistant Director of Security.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The associate occasionally works in high, precarious places, in outside weather conditions, and is occasionally exposed to humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and heat, risk of electrical shock, radiation, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials requires the observance of standard precautions and safe handling practices. Able to work on all shifts and able to provide on-call coverage as needed. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear and taste or smell.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

High school graduate or equivalent. Must have three years of work experience in the design, installation, configuration, testing, monitoring and service of audio, intercom, closed-circuit television, access control and security systems and related equipment used in commercial, industrial or institutional setting. Must demonstrate the completion of formalized training in low voltage/burglar alarm/computer network/CCTV/access control training. Security System Technician certification from Maryland State Police or A+ certification preferred.

• Installs, configures, tests, maintains, and repairs equipment including, [ 25 ] x [ ] = [ ] but not limited to audio, video and security systems, and related equipment used for public address, audio and video intercommunications, closed‑circuit television (CCTV), panic alarm, access control, intrusion detection, life and safety monitoring, and audio and video teleconferencing.

• Installs and removes cables and cabling infrastructure such as wire management systems, patch panels and jacks according to industry and County standards.
• Installs, configures, tests, maintains, and repairs matrix switchers, digital video recorders (DVR), and associated software; may receive technical guidance from network systems administrators for devices connected through an internet.
