The Opportunity

Spiniello is seeking a dedicated, experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our field team in Baltimore. In this role, you will operate excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and other equipment used to repair and replace critical water, sewer, and storm underground utilities.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an operator who takes pride in safe, precise work and understands that every excavation supports the crew, the project, and the communities that rely on the infrastructure we build. Working closely with the Foreman and utility crew, you will help keep field operations productive, safe, and moving forward.

About Spiniello

Spiniello Companies is a nationally recognized infrastructure contractor with more than a century of experience delivering complex underground utility, water, wastewater, and heavy civil construction projects throughout the United States.

Founded in 1922, Spiniello self-performs critical infrastructure work, including open-cut construction and specialty pipe rehabilitation. Our field teams are at the center of that work, bringing skill, teamwork, and accountability to every jobsite.

Who This Role Is Designed For

This role is designed for an experienced equipment operator who is comfortable working in active utility construction environments, including tight urban work areas and changing soil conditions. The ideal candidate works safely, communicates well with the crew, takes care of the equipment entrusted to them, and understands how their performance affects the success of the entire project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate backhoes, excavators, skid steer loaders, and related equipment while working alongside utility crews on the repair and replacement of underground utilities.
  • Excavate safely and efficiently in a variety of soil conditions, including sand, silt, dirt, and rock.
  • Navigate and operate equipment safely and effectively in confined or tight urban work areas.
  • Perform pre-start equipment inspections and required routine care, including greasing, and promptly report equipment concerns.
  • Follow OSHA requirements, applicable state regulations, and Spiniello Safety Policies and Procedures at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions, hazards, equipment issues, or field concerns to the Crew Foreman/Leader, Site Superintendent, and/or Safety Officer as appropriate.
  • Coordinate closely with the Foreman and crew to support safe, productive daily operations.
  • Drive rubber-tired equipment to various work sites when required and properly licensed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Crew Foreman/Leader.
Qualifications

Required

  • Experience and ability to operate an excavator, backhoe, and skid steer loader.
  • 5+ years of experience in utility construction.
  • Knowledge of water, sanitary waste, and/or storm water collection systems.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow basic instructions in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass a required physical examination, such as a DOT physical, when applicable.
Why This Opportunity Is Different

At Spiniello, Equipment Operators do more than run machines - they help build and restore the infrastructure communities depend on every day.

You will work alongside experienced field professionals on essential underground utility projects where safe operation, good judgment, and teamwork directly influence the success of the crew. Your skill in the seat matters: precise excavation protects people and existing utilities, keeps production moving, and helps deliver quality work the right way.

For operators who take pride in their craft and want to be part of a company with more than a century of infrastructure experience, Spiniello offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work, strengthen your skills, and be part of a team built around safety, accountability, and getting the job done together.

Built by People. Driven by Purpose.
