Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent
MUST HAVE HEAVY CIVIL SUPERVISION EXPERIENCE. BUILDING CONSTRUCTION DOES NOT MEET THIS REQUIREMENT.
Well established Metro St. Louis based heavy civil general contractor is seeking a heavy civil construction superintendent.
As a family-owned business with almost 50 years in the industry, we pride ourselves on the successful completion of projects through multiple capacities in heavy civil construction. Projects range from small municipal roads and utility improvements to large interstate construction and rehabilitation as well as commercial and industrial site work, and subdivision infrastructure installation. We self-perform earthwork, soil stabilization, underground utilities, concrete paving and flatwork, concrete footings and floors, asphalt paving, bridge construction, box culverts as well as several other items of work.
While we are a general contractor, we also work as a subcontractor for multiple repeat clients. We typically do not travel with most of our work being performed within a 1-hour radius of the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area.
- The superintendent directs activities of the jobsite workforce engaged in construction of highways, site development infrastructure or other heavy highway construction projects.
- Plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction.
- Schedule crews and orders equipment, tools, and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
- Schedules subcontractor work.
- Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and adjusts work schedules to ensure work progresses at a pace that maintains the schedule.
- Accurately enters time and quantities daily.
- Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and adheres to the schedule.
- 2 years minimum supervision experience, 4 years experience in heavy civil construction industry.
- Experience with public and private projects including DOT work.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong background in heavy civil construction including earthwork, soil stabilization, underground utilities, concrete paving, concrete flatwork. Bridge experience is a plus but not required.
- Must live locally within 45 minutes of Hamel IL.

Additional Qualities sought but not required- Experience with IL & MO DOT, US Army Corps of Engineers.
- Experience working with labor unions.
- Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field
Minimum starting pay of $100,000. Compensation can easily be higher based on the level of experience.
