DESCRIPTION:
The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Senior Accountant. The job duties of the Senior Accountant include, but are not limited to, performing advanced professional-level duties; preparing and maintaining financial records; reconciling complex accounts; preparing financial reports; assisting with the annual audit; assisting with special projects; and supervising the Accounting Specialist position.
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the Village’s financial records and contributes to the efficient operation of the Finance Department through financial analysis, process improvement, and oversight of accounting functions, while providing efficient and courteous service to Village residents, employees, and the general public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Completes month end reconciliations; identifies and prepares journal entries; prepares financial reports.
- Analyzes documentation to ensure accounts reconcile accurately at month end.
- Prepare audit materials; prepare and organize financial reports and records.
- Prepares flow bill contributions and related financial documentation.
- Reviews accounting and financial documents to ensure accuracy of information and calculations and make correcting entries; examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with contracts and other agreements, policies and applicable regulations.
- Supervise the Accounting Specialist position and provide oversight of Accounts Payable operations.
- Perform first-level review of weekly Accounts Payable warrants.
- Identify and record Fire SSA
18 property tax contributions and coordinate related payments. - Maintain records and documentation related to tax revenue collections and prepare collection tracking reports.
- Update and maintain financial and accounting forms on an annual basis.
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and implementing improved accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Contribute to the overall quality and effectiveness of Finance Department operations.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff; acts to promote a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Candidates applying for this position must possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with three (3) years of professional experience; one (1) year of supervisory experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
The Village is seeking a candidate who maintains a professional demeanor when interacting with the public and can communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., residents, employees, and senior management). The position requires the ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures; work independently, efficiently plan work and establish priorities; along with comprehend, retain, and apply Village, State, and Federal policies and legislation.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience using enterprise financial/accounting software systems; prior experience using MUNIS (Tyler Technologies) would be ideal. Candidates must be computer savvy, and have excellent MS Office software skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
WORK SCHEDULE8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday with occasional additional hours required.
SALARY/BENEFITS:This is a full-time, non-exempt position with full benefits and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a defined benefit retirement plan. Our comprehensive benefits package also includes health, dental, and vision insurance, life/AD&D coverage, flexible spending, transit, a 457 deferred compensation plan, paid time off, a wellness incentive program, and tuition reimbursement.
The current salary range for this position is $80,505 to $112,707 (Grade L), depending on qualifications.
