DESCRIPTION:

The Glenbard Wastewater Authority (GWA) is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Electrical Superintendent. The job duties include but are not limited to performing and overseeing a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and upgrade of all electro‑mechanical, process control, HVAC, and electrical equipment and instrumentation a wastewater treatment plant, including a medium voltage (13.2 kV) electrical distribution system;

manage and oversee information technology (IT) services; manage and oversee SCADA system, and to provide other related services at the treatment plant, stormwater treatment plant and lift stations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Reports to and receive direction from the Executive Director
  • Manage and oversee two Plant Electricians
  • Exercise functional and technical supervision over subordinate staff.
  • Cross train electrical employees along with maintenance, and operations employees during appropriate preventative maintenance or corrective maintenance tasking; ensure that proper safety practices and methodologies are understood and followed.
  • Oversee and perform preventative maintenance and repair of motor control centers: including starters, control circuit repairs, wiring, and thermal scanning.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of variable frequency motor drives and associated equipment including power rectifiers, power inverters, electronic circuits, logic controls, microprocessors, pneumatic level measurement, and hydraulic valve system controls.
  • Oversee and perform the maintenance, operation and repair 2.4 mega‑watt power generation facility; uninterrupted power supplies, standby generation systems, including exercising the system weekly, monitor system performance, and scheduling required generator and switch‑gear maintenance.
  • Design and oversee the installation of power distribution and control systems for new equipment.
  • Oversee the installation and repair of lighting systems.
  • Manage and oversee the Authority’s Information Technology (IT) systems, including servers, switches, routers, firewall, electronic devises, subscriptions, VOIP telephone system, security system, and other associated aspects.
  • Oversee the preventative maintenance, repair and replacement of all HVAC equipment and associated controls.
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, testing, and repair of Fire Alarm/Sprinkler Systems
  • Maintain SCADA system including programming, troubleshooting, and repair of problems.
  • Modify programmable logic controller programs, man-machine interfaces; work with operations department, manufactures and contractors to enhance equipment and resolve problems.
  • Research and make recommendations for purchases of equipment, software, and other related items.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in electronics. A three‑year technical degree shall be considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience working with electrical and electronic systems with at least three (3) years in a leadership role.
  • Having basic knowledge of or experience with wastewater treatment is desired but not required.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an Electrician Journeyman License within 6 years of employment.
  • Ability to read/interpret plans, blueprints, schematics and working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license required at time of hire.
