Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversees in‑field day‑to‑day tasks delegated or assigned by the department supervisor or manager.
  • Provides detailed reports to supervisor as needed.
  • Researches products, provides price estimates, and obtains supplies.
  • Participates in tree, plant, and turf maintenance, installation, and care.
  • Installs and maintains all types of pavers and hardscapes.
  • Uses landscaping industry‑standard equipment and tools to perform assigned duties.
  • Mixes and applies chemical herbicides and pesticides.
  • Participates in snow‑removal operations.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on college‑owned equipment and tools.
  • Coordinates daily work with end users, subcontractors, and other facilities staff.
  • Occasionally performs minor cement or asphalt patching on sidewalks and parking lots.
  • Erects regulatory and informational signs.
  • Occasionally supports the work of the building maintenance staff.
  • Assists in irrigation system programming, maintenance, and repair.
  • Assists in athletic field maintenance and field preparation for games.
  • Occasionally maintains mowing and equipment maintenance records.
  • Occasionally assists the Irrigation Tech with irrigation system programming, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Handles daily outdoor trash pickup and removal.
  • Creates and completes work orders daily.
  • Reports to work during emergency conditions and may be assigned to different duties as necessary.
  • Yearly responsible for four documented hours of continuous learning through seminars, classroom training, or conferences.
  • Performs work safely in accordance with facilities department safety procedures, protocols, and the College of DuPage safety program.
  • Completes college‑required training sessions.
  • Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education
    • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience
    • Two years of experience in professional turf maintenance, landscaping, landscape maintenance, or professional snow‑removal operations, or a combination of equivalent education and related experience.
    • Must demonstrate proficiency in required duties.
    • Illinois pesticide applicator’s license with Turf and Right of Way endorsement required within six months of hire.
    • Valid Illinois driver’s license required.
    • Four years of experience in professional turf maintenance or landscaping preferred.
    • Two winter seasons in professional snow‑removal preferred.
    • Experience in grounds equipment repair preferred.
    • Illinois pesticide applicator’s license with Turf or Right of Way endorsement preferred.

Working Conditions
  • Knowledge of grounds equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and all types of vehicles, and upkeep and repair of all equipment and tools.
  • Required to participate in snow operations.
  • Must lift over 50 pounds.
  • Must bend, reach, and work on hands and knees as necessary.
  • Uniform appearance must be clean and well maintained.
  • Must wear solid‑sole shoes.
  • Exposed to harsh weather and long hours during emergencies.
  • Requires extensive walking and the ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Uniforms supplied by the College of DuPage.
  • Must pass a physical exam at the College’s expense. This position requires a background check, lift test, and drug screen.
