Nidec Drive Technology America Corporation is seeking a motivated Senior Production Engineer with a focus on manufacturing equipment development to join our dynamic engineering team.

In this role, you will work closely with a cross-global production engineering team and quality assurance team to design, develop, and maintain manufacturing equipment that supports the production capability and product quality of our products in the Drive Technology field.

The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge of engineering principles and experience developing manufacturing equipment to improve production capability, yield and product quality, and a passion for problem-solving based on the production analysis data background in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze production capacity using SQC statistical methods and software tools, and design, develop, and implement optimal production lines.
  • Analyze production equipment using GR&R analysis, and design, develop, and implement optimal inspection lines.
  • Collaborate effectively with the production engineering teams of the parent company in Japan and each factory, and utilize Japanese and US suppliers to design, develop, and implement optimal production equipment.
  • Work with teams in charge of related processes to resolve technical issues and ensure production capacity performance, and lead these efforts.
  • Design, develop, and implement a system to trace production capacity.
  • Design, develop, and implement a paperless process from parts receipt to product delivery.
  • Work with Japanese and US affiliates to generate and manage production engineering documents and data in accordance with ISO standards.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, and utilize that knowledge to drive innovation.
  • When product defects occur in production or at customer locations, investigate and analyze the product, identify the cause, consider countermeasures, and prepare a report. They will also improve production/inspection systems to prevent similar defects from occurring.
  • Manage assigned projects and report on their progress.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 1-4 years of experience in production equipment development and capacity analysis. Experience in industrial automation, drive technology, or related fields is preferred.
  • Experience using CAD software supporting manufacturing processes, Solid Works preferred. Academic use is acceptable.
  • Experience as a process engineering technician in a manufacturing environment, preferably for mechanical products, is preferred.
  • Proficient in performing dimensional measurements, applying geometric tolerancing techniques, and implementing calibration procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience using GR&R analysis to improve production systems.
  • Proficient in analyzing and interpreting capacity using SQC statistical methods and software tools.
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing equipment for product production.
  • Experience converting paper-based processes from parts receipt to product shipment to paperless processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and train colleagues.
  • Proficient in using software applications for data analysis and documentation.
  • Ability to learn, unlearn, and re-learn. Ability to learn quickly and continuously, and maintain the flexible and adaptable mindset required in a fast-paced environment.

  • Multi-tasking with the ability to handle multiple inquiries at once and prioritize accordingly.

  • Bilingual proficiency in Japanese is highly desirable, as this role will involve frequent collaboration with our headquarters in Japan.
