CNC Lathe Set‑Up Machinist – 1st Shift
Shift: 1st shift, typically 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, will consider someone on 2nd shift
Compensation: $28-$34/hr depending on experience

A well‑established manufacturing organization is seeking a CNC Lathe Set-Up Machinist to support precision machining operations in a modern, team‑oriented environment. The company focuses on delivering high‑quality components and engineered solutions while maintaining a commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.
Key Responsibilities- Conversational programming, develop, modify, and maintain programs
- Set up, troubleshoot, and operate 5-axis lathes with live tooling, and if needed, a 5-axis mill with live tooling
- Review engineering drawings and determine tooling, operations, and workflow sequence
- Conduct simulations and test runs to validate programs before production
- Perform first‑article inspections and ongoing quality checks throughout the manufacturing process
- Estimate machining time and resources needed for jobs
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure smooth workflow
- Maintain documentation related to programs, setups, and process improvements
- Ensure machines are producing parts consistently, efficiently, and within specification
- Must have experience with programming (conversational), setting up, and operating 5-axis CNC lathes with live tooling (or 6-axis)
- Reading and interpreting prints for custom parts, and performing first piece quality inspection
- Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and 3D models
- Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling, and metalworking processes
- Strong math skills, including algebra and trigonometry
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to think strategically about workflow
- Effective communication skills and strong attention to detail
- Mechanically inclined with experience in a machine shop environment
- Strong organizational and time‑management abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical certification or degree in CNC programming, machining technology, mechanical technology, or a related field preferred
- Experience with CNC program creation, machine setup, and multi‑axis machining operations
- Knowledge of machine tools, electronics, and shop safety practices
