Oversees staff performance, manages staffing, hiring, orientation, and discipline, while fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. Manages budgets and resources, maintains appropriate staffing and understands healthcare finance. Leads and supports performance and quality improvement initiatives, implements evidence-based practice changes, and ensures compliance with professional standards and hospital policies. Utilizes critical thinking and technology in decision-making, problem-solving, and integrating new systems to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Provides strong leadership and mentorship, ensures high-quality clinical care, supports staff development, and maintains clear communication and planning for patient care delivery. Encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and maintains positive relationships with patients, staff, vendors, and other departments to ensure patient-centered care. Demonstrates professionalism, supports ongoing education and development, maintains confidentiality, and upholds ethical standards and organizational policies. Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient-focused care.
Educates and mentors staff, ensuring adherence to clinical practice models and evidence-based practices. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and process improvement initiatives in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Fosters patient, family, staff, and physician satisfaction, understanding its impact on business goals. Other duties as assigned.
- Excellent customer service/communication skills.
- Ability to develop outstanding rapport and work well with physicians & staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively and present information to both large and small groups.
- Computer knowledge and skills, prior experience with an Electronic Health Record.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards (Joint Commission, OSHA, Specialty Standards).
- Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with various levels of the healthcare team to establish, define, and refine departmental goals, resolve patient care problems, and implement systems for coordinating and integrating nursing in the healthcare delivery system.
- Demonstrates knowledge of state, federal, and accreditation regulations that guide nursing services by updating departmental policies, practices, and procedures while ensuring compliance.
- Empowers staff through support of educational offerings related to career growth and professional development.
- Models critical thinking skills, serves as a resource for employees, and demonstrates behaviors and attitudes consistent with the organization’s philosophy, mission, goals, and policies/procedures.
- Demonstrates high level of prioritization, dependability, and punctuality; establishes and maintains regular attendance and observes department call-in procedures for absence.
- Participates in hospital and community outreach offerings and serves as a role model for patient experience standards.
- Supervises and develops work schedules for unit personnel, monitors utilization of unit supplies and equipment, and is proactive in recommending cost-saving measures.
- Required to respond to emergency situations by reporting to the department and staying until the crisis is over or the position is covered by incoming personnel.
- Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care that addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age-appropriate needs of the patient population served within the department.
- Bachelor’s of Nursing (Required)
- Master’s of Nursing (Preferred)
- 1+ nursing experience in a relevant unit (Critical Care/ICU) (Required)
- 1+ years related experience (Required)
- 2+ years related experience (Preferred)
- 2+ leadership experience (Preferred)
- Registered Nurse (RN) (Required)
- Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS) (Required)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) (Required)
- Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) (Preferred)
- Lean Bronze Certification (Preferred)
- Acute/Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (CCNS) (Preferred)
