Job Summary

Assists students through academic advisement. Advises on degree and graduation requirements, certificate programs, transfer prerequisites, and financial aid status. Conducts transcript evaluations, transfer‑credit equivalency checks, and GPA calculations. Supports course registration, program planning, and retention initiatives through interpretation of institutional assessment data.

Essential Functions
  • 30% – Provide 1:1 case‑management style advising and support (in‑person, hybrid, and virtual) to students in specified fields of interest or specialty populations; monitor progress and guide goal‑setting, decision‑making, course selection, and registration using People Soft.
  • 25% – Support group advising, orientation, and institutional events; prepare presentations for student groups and special populations.
  • 20% – Identify academic options such as study abroad, research, and internships; advise students on suitable opportunities and connect them with additional support services.
  • 15% – Participate in enrollment and retention projects; maintain program resources and assist with financial aid forms, appeals, and graduation applications.
  • 10% – Attend departmental meetings, training, and professional development; perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree and one year of experience in educational program development, student advisement, or related student development programs. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential duties.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • One or more years of recent college–level academic advising experience.
  • Experience entering records in a student information system (such as People Soft).
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Two or more years of customer service in higher education.
Special Working Conditions
  • Valid State of Arizona Class D driver’s license required.
  • Travel to campus may occur during the interview/selection process.
  • Assignment to all MCCCD locations may be required.
  • May require evenings, weekends, and prolonged computer use.
  • May require lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs.
