Paraprofessional Emergency Substitute

I. General Description

In the absence of the classroom teacher, the paraprofessional provides instruction, encourages student progress, and manages the learning environment as assigned.

II. Qualifications

Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of para educator assessment, 60 college credits (100 level or higher), or an Associate's degree
Must possess a valid AZ substitute teaching certificate
Prior experience working with children is (preferred)
Must possess a Valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
General clerical experience (preferred)
Must be able to push, pull, or lift weights of at least 30 pounds
Must be proficient in the use of the English language, both verbal and written (preferred)
Must be able to pass a background check upon employment

III. Duties and Responsibilities

Follows professional practices consistent with the school district policies in working with Students, parents, and staff.

Maintains a discipline and classroom that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with district policies.

Ensures adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.

Reports to office upon arrival at school; checks mailboxes of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; obtain duty schedules; requests clarification of school rules and procedures.

Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner that motivates students to learn and participate.

Reports all students injuries, accidents, illness, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as reasonably possible.

Acts in a professional manner.

Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/district policies.
