Educational Assistant – Preschool CEP

The job of Educational Assistant – Preschool CEP is performed to work with individual or small groups of preschool children under the supervision of a teacher. The role includes teaching various activities and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

• Administers first aid and medical assistance for ill, medically fragile, or injured children.
• Assists the teacher with age‑appropriate activities such as games, art, music, science, language, nutrition assessments, motor perception, homework checks, and more.
• Supports children individually or in small groups with lesson assignments, including reading, motor perception programs, colors, numbers, etc.
• Maintains classroom equipment, work areas, and student files/records, ensuring a safe learning environment and availability of instructional materials.
• Monitors individual and group activities in various settings (classroom, playground, lunch, rest periods, restrooms) to maintain safety and a positive learning atmosphere.
• Organizes indoor/outdoor and quiet/active play activities appropriate to the age group.
• Performs record‑keeping and clerical functions such as MIPS forms, copying, correcting papers, taking attendance, and answering phone calls.
• Performs related duties as assigned to ensure smooth unit operations.
• Promotes good social habits to improve student outcomes and encourage development.
• Serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks to meet children’s nutritional needs.

Skills
:
Operate standard office and instructional equipment, use relevant software, and maintain accurate records. May need to upgrade skills as job changes.
Knowledge
:
Basic math, understanding written procedures, writing routine documents, speaking clearly, and comprehending complex instructions. Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, child development stages, learning styles, age‑appropriate activities, safety practices, and procedures.
Abilities
:
Schedule activities, collect and analyze data, use job‑related equipment, work with diverse individuals and groups, solve problems, communicate across diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks, work as part of a team, and handle interruptions.

• Work under direct supervision using standardized routines.
• Provide information and/or advise others.
• Operate within a defined budget.

The role requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Activities involve 30% sitting, 50% walking, and 20% standing, with exposure to potential injury or illness.

Job‑related experience is desired.

High school diploma or equivalent.

60 College Semester Hours OR Passing Score on the Para Professional Test.

Maintains certificates and/or licenses, including Measles/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination, Tuberculosis Clearance, and IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
