This position will have the Ameri Corps Volunteers serving in an educational role, using an urban farm to teach young people ages 5-18 about urban agriculture, nutrition, culinary skills and leadership skills and more. This position is ideal for someone who wants to work outdoors, teaching kids and having a variety of educational opportunities.

Serving at Tucson Village Farm and the 4-H Healthy Living Center, an Ameri Corps Volunteers has the opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks. From teaching field trips for students preK-12th grade in our gardens, leading cooking class at our Culinary Education Center and running teambuilding programs at the ropes course. We have a wide variety of programs, projects and activities in a gorgeous, albeit hot and dry location.

An Ameri Corps Volunteer serving here needs to want to work hard, enjoy interacting with youth, be flexible and have a willingness to be a team player. Ameri Corps Volunteers will receive training in arid land food production, youth development, leadership development and program design and implementation.

Member Duties
  • Develop, facilitate, & evaluate educational field trips for nearly 8,000 youth each school year.
  • Lead groups of youth through leadership, communication & problem‑solving activities on the 4‑H Ropes Course.
  • Provide training to volunteers to assist with all aspects of programming.
  • Lead and teach youth and community volunteers about urban agriculture and nutrition.
  • Market and promote programming through social media, newsletters and community outreach events.
  • Assist with large community events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with youth and working with the public.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Capability to lift over 50 pounds and work nights and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license.
