Summary

Under direct supervision, incumbent(s) assists with implementing, assessing, creating lessons, instructing, and maintaining positive behavior for students in the Head Start program. Incumbent(s) will also participate in home visits, parent and teacher conferences, and meetings required by the Head Start program.

Essential Functions
  • Assist the Head Start Instructor with implementing Head Start Performance Standards, district procedures, and other requirements; maintain documentation to demonstrate compliance.
  • Review families’ needs and progress at least once a month; work with caseworker to meet health and social service needs.
  • Maintain relationships with families to encourage meaningful participation.
  • Assist with assessing students, creating lesson plans, and instructing.
  • Observe students and participate in developmentally appropriate outdoor play activities.
  • Work with identified disabilities services support staff to provide direct services and develop goals for children with disabilities.
  • Maintain and upkeep classroom supplies, materials, and equipment; perform cleanup services when necessary.
  • Help maintain acceptable behavior standards for children using positive methods to support self‑esteem.
  • Assist in developmental screening and referral processes with Head Start instructor and Special Services staff.
  • Participate in ongoing training and attend staff meetings; assist with planning, organizing, and attending parental meetings.
  • Assist with conducting at least two home visits and two parent/teacher conferences per family each school year.
  • Other job‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to hire.
  • One year of experience in a similar field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential duties.
  • Child Development Associate certification, Certificate of Completion, or obtain within two years of hire.
  • Valid Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card or proof of submission prior to hire.
  • Valid health examination clearance prior to hire.
  • TB testing clearance prior to hire.
  • Valid Arizona Department of Transportation driver’s license.
  • First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid Arizona Food Handler’s License certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate of Arts degree in early childhood education, child development, education or closely related field plus one year of experience; or equivalent combination sufficient to perform essential duties.
Physical Requirements

Employee regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk; hear; reach; occasionally climb or balance; taste or smell. Frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Required vision abilities: close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.

Working Conditions

Employee occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Noise level usually moderate.
