Summary
Operations Specialist Trainee (OST) at SRP is a Power Plant Control Room Operator Trainee. The OST will start as an outside (auxiliary) Operator during training. Previous experience as a power generation plant control room operator or control room operator trainee is highly preferred.
OS T duties include satisfactory completion of all training objectives to develop the skills necessary for promotion to the Operations Specialist position. The OST will be involved in all aspects of operating a power generation facility, including maintenance functions as required by each site.
ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for the successful completion of the OST curriculum and promotion to the Operator Specialist classification.
Under limited supervision the OST must learn the facility‑specific operation of coal, natural gas, fuel oil fired steam generating units, steam turbine generators, simple cycle gas turbines, combined cycle units, conventional and pumped storage hydro units, internal combustion engine units, solar powered units, wind powered units, and fuel cell powered units, as well as related equipment.
- Learn to operate and monitor equipment and auxiliaries by remote control from the control room and throughout the facility using Distributed Control Systems, gauges, instruments, and communication facilities.
- Operate all units in charge with their related equipment, including regular O&M duties at the site (housing areas, civil works, roadways, water or sewer systems, etc.).
- Coordinate and maintain unit availability with AGC, preparing and planning for load changes based on system demands.
- Operate units within environmental and SRP guidelines.
- Direct work of other classifications and assist as directed by others.
- Train personnel in proper operation of plant equipment, controls, and procedures.
- Evaluate plant processes and issue clearances as required, possessing thorough knowledge of the clearance procedure.
The training objective is the successful completion of all training curriculum defined by the Operations Specialist Trainee program. All testing and Job Performance Measures must be completed successfully. Training shall be completed within two years from the date of promotion, or varying with Plant Manager’s agreement to meet work demands.
Progressionary Training Objectives:
Successful completion of the OST curriculum, after which progression to the Operator Specialist classification is available without requiring an opening at the current facility.
Typical duties may overlap with other classifications. Shift work, non‑continuous multi‑shift, and overtime may be required.
ExperienceMust complete at least one year as an O&M Specialist III, Operations or equivalent skills and knowledge.
EducationA high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
Testing and Certifications- Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test, and training required.
