The individual in this position will assist in preparing, packaging, delivering, and charging of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Fill and label medications
- Stock medications into pharmacy inventory
- Restock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs)
- Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications
- Deliver medications to patient care areas
- Attend to medication requests and phone calls
- Prepare IV sterile admixture solutions and IV products
- Assist in pharmacy quality assurance activities
- Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards, and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures
- Assist pharmacists in performing various duties as assigned
- Accurately fill medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner
- Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing
- Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins
- Refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits accurately and timely
- Accurately stock ADCs in a timely manner
- Prepackage and label oral medications and extemporaneous preparations
- Prepare IV sterile admixture solutions and IV products accurately consistent with IV policies and procedures (USP
797 and USP
800) - Restock medications in IV room and conform to IV cleaning schedule
- Complete monthly medication inspections as assigned
- Maintain quality assurance logs with proper documentation and notify Supervisor of any deviations from standards
- Adhere to pharmacy technician operational workflow and delivery schedule
- Follow proper process for handling of controlled substances and report any variances to Supervisor or pharmacist‑in‑charge
- Ensure patient accounts are properly charged
- Act under the supervision of facility DEA registrant or other Licensed Independent Practitioners while performing medication management related activities at a remote site commonly owned and operated by the Hospital
- Other duties as assigned
- Prioritizes workload, completes work in a timely manner, and maintains a clean, orderly work environment
- Shares responsibility for ordering and stocking medication and keeping the department clean
- Maintains a calm demeanor during busy or crisis situations
- Utilizes personal protective equipment to protect from exposure to chemical, radiation, and infectious hazards
- Actively participates in department management by providing input at meetings and reading communication
